Pediatric Home Services

Ventilator Certification - $300

This eight hour classroom program meets the State of Wisconsin DHS required 14 elements of Respiratory Care Service training for licensed healthcare professional participants to be certified to care for a ventilator dependent patient in the home. Much of the class involves hands-on learning with ventilators, tubing circuits, tracheostomy tubes, and other pieces of equipment used in the home settings. Time will be allotted for you to set parameters on a ventilator, change an oxygen tank regulator, and perform a tracheostomy tube change on a mannequin. Letters of completion for both ADULT and PEDIATRIC certification will be awarded at the end of class. This certification is valid for two years, less one day, from the date of the class. Eight (8) contact hours will be awarded upon completion of this class.

Ventilator Re-Certification - $150

Aurora Health Care - St. Luke's Medical Center

Adult Ventilator Certification - $175 

Does not provide pediatric certification. Upon completion of the 8-hour course a certification and skills check off will be issued. The certification and skills check off are for application of licensure from the State of Wisconsin to provide adult home ventilator services. The student must receive a minimum of 84% on multiple-choice exam and complete a hands-on competency on the skill sets taught during the course. Content for the written exam will be covered during the course by the instructors. Certification requires to be renewed every 2 years. We offer recertification courses as well.

Adult Ventilator Re-Certification - $ 100

Pre-course materials will be emailed. Ensure you enter email address accurately. Please bring a pen or pencil. Course does NOT provide certification for the pediatric patient population. Pre-course material will be provided for review via email. Registration for this class will close approximately 1 week in advance. Pre-course material is a PowerPoint and will be emailed approximately 1 week prior to the date of the class. Please ensure accurate email address is included in registration. Recertification must be done prior to 2-year expiration of last certification. If past the 2-year expiration of certification, you are required to retake the full certification course. To successfully complete the course the participant must receive a minimum of 84% on the multiple-choice exam and appropriately perform a hands-on demonstration of basic trach care including open suction and replacing trach tube. Milwaukee Children's Hospital 

Pediatric Ventilator Certification - $300

  • Both Cert and Re-Cert are offered on the same day and time. When you register: Choose Re-Certification if you have a valid and current certification. Choose Certification if you have not yet been certified or if your certification is over 2 years old. You may begin the online modules any time. It is due the Tuesday before your in-person class. There is no fee for this part of the class.
  • Part 1: Completion of self-paced, online modules (3 to 6 hours)
    • Certificate of completion must be submitted to maxiSHARE by the Tuesday before the classroom portion.
    • There is no cost to take the online portion of the class. You may start at any time. Registration is required. To get started, visithttps://ce.icep.wisc.edu/node/12343/ehomecare
  • Part 2: In person classroom, skills check off
    • This portion is on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Campus (Curative Building).

A link to course information, including the Part 1, online module work, will be emailed to you with your registration confirmation. Registration fee: $175.00.  Classes fill up quickly, so register early. Note: If you miss the deadline for submitting your certificate of completion for the online portion of the class, you will not be permitted to attend the classroom portion of the course.   UW HealthCare Direct    Middleton, WI

UW Health Care Direct Respiratory Care Services offers training and ventilator certification.

Who: Licensed healthcare professionals, including nurses, providing private duty services to home ventilator patients are required to be certified and must submit documentation of age-specific skills acquisition. This class satisfies the State of Wisconsin DHS 14 elements of Respiratory Care skills requirements. Certificates are valid for two years and will be issued after successful completion of the required coursework.

What: This is a hybrid class consisting of online pre-coursework assigned ahead of time and in-person firsthand equipment and skills demonstration during class. The training covers evidence-based management of ventilators (especially troubleshooting and alarms), tracheostomies (emergent situations), suction machines, humidifiers, oxygen, pulse oximetry, disposable supplies, as well as respiratory and skin assessment and various chest physiotherapy options.

Sessions usually run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and cover separate enrollment for the adult and pediatric population.
